There is a culture surrounding dahlia flowers, their cultivation and their propagation, but how and why did it start. The flowering plants known as dahlias are considered some the most varied and widely distributed of any floral species, even today. This is an unusual semi-cactus dahlia that arrived in the United States years ago, when it was planted in the Monet gardens at Giverny, it is a particularly robust variety of the dahlia. There are quite a number of types and they come in an equally fantastic styles, but the Rip City is considered the best. Because it is a strong growing, easy to keep healthy and beautiful plant. It comes highly recommended.
Dahlia Flower 2: The Bishop of Auckland
This member of the Bishop Group dahlias is thought to be a perfect specimen. It has a velvet crimson single flowers and is known for having dark leaves. Being able overshadow other even nicer, but more common varieties. It is related to the brightly scarlet colored ‘Bishop of Llandaff’.
Dahlia Flower 3: Sam Hopkins
This is the blackest colored dahlia and maybe the most famous that can be grown. It is renowned, being part of the popular decorative grouping of these flowering plants. Every part of this plant can be cut into black velvety sections. Less hearty than some varieties, it still stands alone as a marvelous black beauty.
Dahlia Flower 4: Thomas A Edison
Named after the famed inventor and patent mogul from the United States, this is one to fall in love with. It comes in a wide variety of decorative color choices, and has a reputation for being a show quality flower. This flowering dahlia is a common compliment to more plain gardens, but there is nothing ordinary about this dahlia. It simply is one of the best.
Dahlia Flower 5: The Cactus Pontiac
What makes these extraordinary dahlias special is their coloring. It blooms with dazzling coral pink flowers, mixed with an occasional splash of crimson. The flowering shape and colors are complimentary, especially when grown in large numbers, this makes them shine superbly.
Dahlia Flower 6: Geerling’s Jubilee
This is a dazzling pink dahlia, that is reminiscent of an undersea creature, more than a flowering plant. It is true that this specimen has been compared to similar looking varieties of sea-anemone or urchins. It is a hearty addition to any garden, because it is both long flowering and productive. It is used in many homes by being picked and floated singly in bowls of water.
Dahlia Flower 7: Magenta Star
Voted as one of the best new dahlias by many as the most exciting new introductions among dahlias in the last decade. These are large and and characteristically pretty, with single flowers that are magenta in color, as a contrast to their wild black colored leaves. As to growth, it is not considered a very strong flowering plant, but is truly lovely to gaze at.
Dahlia Flower 8: Black Fire
This is raved as being a perfect dahlia for cutting purposes, having beautifully rich and dark crimson flowers. This black looking flowering plant has an unusual long life in a vase. Arranged with dahlia ‘Raffles’, it looks amazing. The original black dahlia by reputation.
Dahlia Flower 9: Raffles
The mix of colors in the smaller sized dahlia plant includes coral pink at the base, a crimson red overlay and bright green eyes located centrally. This variety is a long growing and lasting plant. It is one of the best for cutting and using in arrangements.
Dahlia Flower 10: The New Baby
This flowering plant opens up with petals that are tangerine, but also deeper ones of vermilion coloring. It is most perfect for smaller flower arrangement needs, being popular for little hand tied punches. It is simple, yet stands out for special occasions.
Other popular varieties of dahlias include the Karma Fuchsiana, Jowey Mirella, Jescot Julie and the Chat Noir. As already stated, there are far too many shades, shapes and colors of this blooming flower to list in any completeness here.
